Self Help Tutorials

“Computing” is a big subject and many of us who have been using computers for 30 years or more are still learning new things nearly every day. The first step is to master the basics after which you will need to choose which areas to move on to e.g how to use the internet, emails, word processing etc.

We have found that it is much more effective to help people to learn rather than teaching them what we think they should know.

For Beginners

If you are new to computers a good grounding in the basics will make subsequent learning much easier.
The following are links to some excellent Beginners Tutorials from different sources. We suggest that you spend about 20 minutes per session working through these. If there is something you do not understand, call one of our helpers for assistance. After each session have a break or practice using your computer for a little while, then proceed to the next session. The three links repeat some of the same ground but this is useful for revision.
