Christmas CD
Sylvia Winterbottom demonstrated how to create a highly amusing multimedia Christmas CD for friends and family on Thursday November 19th. Her presentation includes tips on using the menu system. See Christmas CD for the presentation. Copies of her CD are available at the Club.

Club donates 740 Euros to Javea Day care Centre

On Friday 13th November 2009, Chris B-J together with Membership secretary Mike Easter, and Hardware coordinator Vic Tattersall donated 740 Euros to Javea's new day care centre for Alzheimers patients and other dependents. This money was raised by the Club through a raffle and tokens of appreciation for help given by members to the Club. The day care centre is the Club's chosen charity for this year.See Club Videos and in the News for photo.

At the risk of being accused of promoting Microsoft, those who are undecided about changing to Windows 7 may like to view the comments on the BBC's "Click" programme this week, you'll have to put up with an advert for BMW first.

JCC Christmas Party
We'll be having a Christmas Party at the Club House on Tuesday December 8th evening. It will be a "bring a dish to share and bring your own drink" - or "pot luck" party. Admission is free, but ticket only come to the Club to sign up and get your ticket. Tessa will let you know what type of food to bring (we want to avoid having 5000 sausage rolls). Places are limited! We'll be holding a prize draw raffle in aid of the Javea Alzheimers Day Care Centre and there will be music and entertainment courtesy of one of our multimedia PCs and the Internet!

Mobile Smart Phones and netbook Operating Systems
On Thursday November 5th, Fredrik Wengelin gave a fascinating review of the trends in mobile computing, the capabilities of new smartphones, and how the telephony companies are fighting a losing battle. See Smartphones for his presentation.


Other News

Club raises 500 Euros for Alzheimers Day Care Centre
The Windows 7 launch day raffle raised 500 Euros for Javea's Alzheimer's Day Care Centre which will be opening in the Convent near the Old Man's Roundabout shortly. The top prize for the raffle was Windows 7 Home Edition kindly donated by Vic Tattersall. This was won by Peter Way. The second prize was an 8GB memory stick donated by Eurocartridge, and won by Andreas Wernli, third prize a gift box of shortbread biscuits donated by Xabia al Dia Magazine won by Lorraine Hopkins, and there were also runners up prizes of seven Windows 7 re-usable gift bags. Our thanks to all the prize contributors and the girls at the cash desk who did so well in selling the raffle tickets. This brings the total raised by the Club for the Alzheimers centre to over 730 Euros.

Eurocartridge
This company sells blank CDs, DVDs, Ink cartridges and small accessories at Pedreguer Rastro.
They do not have a shop but visit the Club twice a month on Mondays.
